This programme of six online workshops is designed to help you and your team develop excellent people management skills.

Please note: These workshops will take place online. Each company can send a maximum of three delegates.

This programme of workshops will cover a number of key areas that will help you develop the skills of your people managers.

These workshops will look at the role of people managers. You’ll learn to identify the skills and approaches that people managers require to successfully carry out their role, both now and in the future.

What you’ll learn

These workshops will provide guidance on implementing fair and progressive work practices. Insights will include:

  • Key drivers for developing new ways of working (like the fair work framework, productivity and employee engagement)
  • Roles and responsibilities of a people manager
  • The skills, style and attributes of an effective manager
  • The importance of effectively maximising and improving the existing skills of your staff
  • Empowering individuals and teams

The workshops will also look at managing the needs of diverse groups, in order to build and maintain an autonomous, engaged and high-performing team that can achieve business goals. Areas covered include:

  • The characteristics of a good, diverse team, and its positive impact on the workplace
  • Unconscious bias, demographic changes and the needs of a diverse group
  • Maximising teams’ existing skills and driving collaboration to boost productivity and strategic direction
  • The benefits of a work environment where people are empowered, productive, contributing and happy
  • Communication, influencing and assertiveness skills
  • Techniques for effective influencing and assertiveness, and for encouraging creativity and problem solving within teams

You’ll get a chance to learn tools and techniques that will help your people managers embrace employee voice and employee representation. This will help you ensure that their communication style works for the whole team. You’ll learn about:

  • Employee communication issues and potential barriers to achieving shared understanding
  • Managing emotions and understanding body language for successful interpersonal communications
  • The effect of employee voice on a team or business, and how to encourage and embrace this
  • Coaching and delegation

You’ll also get an introduction to the principles of effective coaching and delegation, which can help improve productivity and make the most of existing staff skills. You’ll get a chance to look at:

  • The link between coaching and delegation
  • Identifying whether coaching or delegating will be more effective
  • Key coaching techniques that maximise existing employee skills
  • Managing individual performance
  • Gaining the knowledge, skills and confidence to conduct performance reviews that motivate staff

Attendees will also learn about encouraging resonance and will gain an understanding of the skills required for setting engaging goals. They’ll explore:

  • Motivating individuals through positive performance management practices
  • Implementing strategies to provide recognition beyond pay
  • Preventing unnecessary conflict and constructively resolving conflict
  • The meaning of resilience, and why it matters to managers and individuals
  • Creating a culture of innovation
  • Articulating your organisational culture, and how this can encourage creativity, problem solving and innovation within your team or organisation

Lastly, you’ll find out how you can influence a culture where leaders and managers don’t always have the answers. You’ll gain insights about:

  • How mutual accountability, open communication, trust and shared ownership can foster a collaborative environment
  • Techniques to encourage employee voice
  • Techniques for cultivating creativity and problem solving
