Business Briefing for city-wide celebrations of the Chinese New Year 2023 in Edinburgh

The business briefing will provide a chance to discuss the plans for the 2023 Chinese New Year programme in the city supported by ETAG and Heriot-Watt University. It’ll provide an opportunity to share ideas, learn more about participating, and help support what has become a feature of the early new year cultural activities in Edinburgh.

Context:

Chinese New Year celebrations in Edinburgh have grown in recent years, and in 2023 we are planning an optimistic citywide celebration, supporting the city’s recovery efforts.

The Year of the Rabbit starts on 22 January 2023 and Edinburgh’s Chinese New Year Festival runs from 20 January to 29 January, our Chinese New Year campaign will promote local businesses, encourage local exploration and discovery, as well as continue to reinforce the links between Scottish and Chinese culture.

In a nutshell:

* Edinburgh’s Chinese New Year Festival will develop a dedicated website and advertising campaign for 2023, celebrating the links between China and Scotland, and targeting local residents, short break visitors and our Chinese students and communities.

* The festival will run from 20 January to 29 January 2023.

* A PR and advertising campaign will commence in January 2023.

* Cultural venues, tourism, hospitality and retail businesses are encouraged to submit installations, display, events and promotions for inclusion in the online listings. Listings are completely free!

* The first deadline for supplying your information is: 31 December 2022.

* Please note that only CNY / China / Rabbit-themed events and promotions will be considered for inclusion.

The Edinburgh Chinese New Year Festival is coordinated by ETAG’s China Ready Initiative and made possible by the generous support of Heriot-Watt University.
