In December 2023, The City of Edinburgh Council launched a survey, ‘Visitor Levy for Edinburgh: Resident & Visitor Survey’ to capture the views of visitors and residents on Edinburgh’s plans to introduce a Visitor Levy.

The survey generated close to 4,000 responses in total, with broad support for the aims and objectives of the proposed ‘Visitor Levy for Edinburgh’.

The findings from the survey, published 8 March 2024, will be used to help further inform the development of a ‘Visitor Levy for Edinburgh’.

The Visitor Levy (Scotland) Bill, if approved, will allow local authorities to introduce a charge on overnight visitor stays, with the funds raised to be used to benefit the local area and its visitor economy.
