Edinburgh’s position as the UK’s most visited city after London for Chinese tourists is set to be strengthened as Edinburgh launches a new “China Ready” initiative on 1 October to mark National China Day.
The Chinese visitor market is estimated to have grown five-fold in the last ten years and Edinburgh Castle welcomed over 100,000 Chinese visitors in 2014. Other key businesses in the city, including hotels, visitor attractions and retailers have all reported increasing levels of Chinese visitors and the initiative aims to build on this to position Edinburgh as a China friendly destination and support the capital’s long-term strategic ambition to develop direct air routes with China.
The initiative will bring together a range of existing and new activity to provide a programme of support for Edinburgh’s tourism businesses, including training and information sessions on Chinese culture, preferences and expectations, practical advice on issues such translation, use of ecommerce and social media, as well as the opportunity to join a network of China friendly businesses and share best practice.
Details of the activity will be announced shortly. If you would like to be involved and get priority notification of future opportunities, please register your details below and we’ll be in touch!
