Planning your Social Media Calendar

Last week saw a brain-storm brewing again in the heart of Edinburgh with 40 local tourism businesses getting together at the newly opened and breathtakingly stunning Colonnades at the Signet Library on the Royal Mile to jointly produce a social media calendar for the next three months.

Led by our ETAG Technology Facilitators, four teams were tasked to put  their heads together to investigate and discuss various events, activities and themes coming up in July, August and September, and to think up creative campaigns to jointly promote their businesses on social media.

The creative juices were definitely flowing (not at least thanks to the fabulously inspiring afternoon tea treats by Signet Library’s head chef).

JuicyJuly!

In July, look out for berry-season inspired #JuicyJuly offerings and recipes as well as potential special offers related to A (and C)-List concerts happing at Edinburgh Castle by using #EdiVamps #EdiBoyzone or #EdiLionel. We are also very much looking forward to some Lionel Ritchie puns – “Hello, is it me you’re booking for?” Okay, so there was much wine with the tea…

The festivals in August will provide a wealth of content for social media such as reviews of favourite shows by staff and #WTFringe. However, at the chance of getting lost in all the festival noise, August is a good time for planting seeds for the shoulder season as well as highlighting #NotTheFringe and #DodgeTheFringe activities and offers.

Post-festival September may focus more on discounts because of #FringeBroke. However, Grandparents Day and the arrival of new overseas students and their families may lead to some fun and interesting campaigns around #instagran (a true fav) and #OneDayEdi – things to do in one day in Edinburgh.

Last but not least, a big massive thanks to Aggie Jablonska of Heritage Portfolio and her team for hosting the event at the magnificent Colonnades at the Signet Library.

Summer will be busy but we will get throught it TOGETHER, Edinburgh!

It’s just “One More Night’… oh sorry that’s Phil, non Lionel…
